Dr. Irina Chernetsky is a scholar of the Renaissance art and architecture and a lecturer at
the History of Art Department at Tel Aviv University, Schechter Institute, and Beit Berl College. She graduated and earned her PhD from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
Among her publications are the book, The Mythological Origins of Renaissance Florence: The City as New Athens, Rome, and Jerusalem, published by the Cambridge University Press in 2022, and the articles “The Role of the Baptistery in the Formation of Florence as a New Rome and a New Jerusalem,” Viator 53.2 (2023), pp. 249-294; “The Depiction of Florence as Jerusalem in Lorenzo Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise,ˮ Artibus et Historiae 77 ( 2018), pp. 13-30; “The Creation of the World by Virgil Solis,ˮ Zeitschrift für Kunstgeschichte 79 (2016), pp.211-225. Among publications in preparation is the article, entitled “Hebrew Script in Albrecht Dürer’s (?) S. Jerome Curing the Lion.”
